  • I was in a blue funk all day yesterday and drank too much wine with
    dinner last night, so I decided to take some positive action
    today.  A trip to the spa and then to the hairdresser seemed to be
    in order.  Don’t know if I feel better about missing my
    much-looked-forward-to trip, but I’m definitely more relaxed and I dare
    anyone to try to find any gray in my hair now.  The cut isn’t bad
    either.  Now, I need to start jotting down some thoughts as to why
    my $3 billion company really needs to have a VP/GC instead of
    someone up in Denver trying to handle the day-to-day issues of our
    executive staff.  Or maybe I’ll just watch a movie. 

  • Well crap.  The amost-worst has happened.  I have to cancel
    my trip to Australia if I want any chance at being considered a serious
    candidate for VP/GC.  Wasn’t told so outright, but I’m not an
    idiot and could clearly see how the conversation/questions were
    heading.  So I’m gonna cancel reservations on Monday and try to
    look virtuous and industrious.   A lot.  The best that could
    happen is I get the job and get to fly to Munich in September and again
    next year and maybe even still to Australia.  The worst that could
    happen is I cancel this trip and then don’t get the damn job. 
    Entirely possible as the decision-maker is exploring whether our $3
    billion company “really needs a GC.”  What the hell does he think
    we do all day?  Crap, crap, crap.  I am SO bummed.  Crap

  • Big stuff happening at work these days.  Our European lawyer is
    here visiting, and I’m hosting her at my place.  She’s French,
    living in Germany, and speaks three languages.  We’ve been having
    lots of fun during her visit.  I’m leaving for Australia in 8
    days, and I’m so not ready for the work I have to do during the first
    week over there.  I’m so very ready for the 2 weeks of vacation
    that will follow.  Unless I have to cut them short because my boss
    quit and I’m applying for her job.  As part of that, I just about
    had to offer to cut the trip short if her boss felt uncomfortable with
    “leaving the team without leadership” while I took vacation.  Hope
    to hell he says “take the vacation” and “you’ve got the job.” 
    Should find out soon.  I hope.
