Month: April 2007

  • It’s been a long, up-and-down kinda week.  It started out last week, with a quick, unexpected trip to Tempe.  I spent three days there in a training class, with constant interruptions for a huge deal that had to get done by Friday.  Had a fabulous dinner Thursday night at a place called Cowboy Ciao,
which is a combination restaurant and wine bar.  Would definitely
recommend to anyone going out that way (I think it’s actually in
Scottsdale).  Got home late on Friday night and had to work most of the day Saturday on the Big Deal ($56 million a year for six years).   Had dinner out with MCC and another friend, and then cchipman and DW stayed overnight on their way home from Stargate Baronial.  Had breakfast with them and MCC on Sunday, then abandoned them for a spa day, then went to see Wicked with MCC.  Was disappointed.  Not that it isn’t a good show, and not that I didn’t enjoy it, but we saw it when it came through last year, and that show was much better than this one.  Including the trip to Tempe, that made five nights in a row eating out.

Monday, we had our quarterly team-building Whirleyball game, and then I spent most of the day on the Big Deal.  MCC and I met another friend for dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant (that’s 6 nights out).  Tuesday and Wednesday pretty much sucked, although not totally.  I left work early on Tuesday to meet my interior designer and a contractor to walk through the house describing what needs to be done (the not-sucky part).  During the drive home, in pouring rain that reduced visibility to 10 feet or so, I must have run over something in the road because two blocks from the house, my front driver’s side tire went flat.  I made it, very slowly, to the entrance of the alley behind my house when I felt it drop to the rim and stopped driving.  With the designer and contractor waiting outside my house, that meant leaving the car blocking the entrance and a lovely little walk with no umbrella and in driving rain up to my front door (about 100 yards) to meet them.  Let them in, changed clothes, called AAA and had an afternoon.  Went to dinner with an old law school buddy (night number 7).  More on that later.

Got up Wednesday, and had a meeting with a different contractor/handyman about stuff I need to get done before the remodel gets started.  He’s the same guy my brother has been using to help him remodel, and is very reliable and does good work.  He’ll get back to me with a bid.  Then, I got in the car to go to work and drove about 3 blocks, only to realize that I had another flat tire – this time the rear driver’s side.  Another call to AAA and a lovely wait while the driver switched the spare to the rear and then towed me to the dealership.  Got a ride in to work, caught up on all the ultra-high-priority emails that came in about the Big Deal.  Left early to get my car, which had to have both tires replaced – totally slashed up on the sidewalls.  Got home and went back to work until my doorbell rang.  Yay for the massage therapist, who I totally forgot was coming (the other not-sucky part).  It meant no dinner, but by then I’d forgotten how to cook anyway.

I’ll finish out the week later.

  • Your Dosha is Kapha

Calm and grounded, you are not prone to mood swings or anger.
However, once you do get angry, it takes a lot to cool you down.
You tend to think a little slower than most people, but your logic is astounding.
Overall, you very loyal and trustworthy. You’re not scared of being who you really are.

With friends: You enjoy their company, but often listen more than talk

In love: You crave connection and affection. It’s hard for you to be single.

To achieve more balance: Exercise vigorously (especially in the sun) and let go of attachments.

  • Reality Check

Just read some LJ journal entries from some old friends in the East, who were my friends from the day I joined the SCA.  Way back when, they were some of the most beautiful people I knew (young and pretty and enthusiastic and sweet and intelligent . . .).   Somewhere along they way they all grew up while I lived my life a thousand miles away.  If you’re ever tempted to take the SCA too seriously, just spend a minute thinking about real life and death.  My  young friend is now a (not so very young) law enforcement officer.  This weekend, his ladies spent some amount of time (endless) watching CNN news feeds, wondering and hoping desperately that he was not the officer killed in a shootout.  He wasn’t, thank the gods, but it does kinda put things in perspective, doesn’t it?

  • We Need a T-Shirt

. . . saying “We survived the Great Western Ice Crown” this weekend.  My feet are beginning to thaw (I’ve been home for three hours now, after a six hour drive, so it’s about time).  This really is going to be one of those “yeah, I was there, no really, it was really that cold” kinda events that everyone who actually went tells stories about.  I’m kinda surprised we had as many entrants as we did – 23 – and as deep a list.   It made it much easier to “run” the list, considering we only really had three rounds before the finals.  They only real problem I had was that I couldn’t find a place to sit down where I could see the list and the heralds could find me to return the cards where I wasn’t getting snowed/sleeted on the whole time.  The table in front of me had about half an inch of snow by the afternoon.  Many were joking that Romanius and Deanna will become known as the Ice Crown after both their coronation and their crown being affected by such weather.

Glad it’s over – we’re on the downhill side of the reign now.  The only big event left is Warlord and a month later, we’re done (thanks JP – and sorry!)!

  • You are Betty Grable

    The ulitmate girl next door
You’re the perfect girl for most guys
Pretty yet approachable. Beautiful yet real.
  • More Shopping . . .

So, not so much playing on the computer today.  Mom and I went over to
MiniCooperChic’s house to admire the new place and then went rug
shopping.  Rug shopping morphed into furniture shopping, which morphed
into looking at all kinds of home type stuff shopping.  A good time was
had by all, but it’s now 7:39 and I haven’t touched the computer except to take the tests I’ve already posted!  I
brought home three carpet samples to look at and have already discarded
one of them as having too much pink (or maybe it’s peach) in it.  Two
other shades are definite possibilities.  Have to take them back on
Wednesday, which is kind of inconvenient, but what the heck.  I think
I’m just going to chuck the whole computer thing for the night and go
finish my current book.  Good night!
